描述

Xylan 8840 is a solvent-based, FEP (fluorinated ethylene propylene)-based nonstick coating from Whitford Corporation (now PPG), part of the Xylan® coating family. As an authorized distributor and trader, we supply genuine materials with full traceability and direct access to official technical documentation.

Unlike Xylan 1010, 1014, or 1070 which use PTFE as the primary nonstick element, Xylan 8840 uses FEP instead of PTFE in its formulation. FEP (when correctly processed) provides even better nonstick properties than PTFE, making Xylan 8840 the coating with the best nonstick performance among all Xylan coatings currently in production.

Xylan 8840 is classified as a fluoropolymer/inorganic binder coating, specifically formulated for high-temperature applications. It delivers exceptional release properties with zero demolding force demonstrated in tire mold applications, making it ideal for demanding industrial environments including refinery service, high-temperature bolting, tire molds, and food processing.

The coating is available as a single-coat finish, simplifying application while delivering outstanding performance. It is food-contact acceptable and suitable for applications requiring FDA compliance.

Key Features of Xylan 8840 Coating

  • FEP-Based Formulation – Uses FEP instead of PTFE as the nonstick element, providing superior nonstick properties compared to traditional PTFE coatings

  • Exceptional Release Performance – Demonstrated zero demolding force in tire mold applications; outperforms PTFE coatings (14–22N demolding force)

  • High-Temperature Resistance – Continuous service up to 400°C (750°F); suitable for refinery and high-temperature bolting applications

  • Single-Coat Application – Available as a single-coat finish, simplifying the coating process and reducing application time

  • UV Resistance – Resists ultraviolet light degradation, suitable for outdoor and high-exposure applications

  • Excellent Corrosion Protection – Self-lubricating with exceptional防腐性能; extends component service life in aggressive environments

  • Food-Contact Acceptable – Suitable for food processing applications where stickiness is a real issue

  • Versatile Color Options – Available in dark grey, green, medium grey, and other colors

  • Broad Substrate Compatibility – Can be applied to steel, aluminum, and other metal substrates

  • Inorganic Binder System – Fluoropolymer/inorganic binder provides enhanced thermal stability and durability

Processing Guidelines for Xylan 8840 Coating

Step Process
Surface Preparation Degrease (acetone or isopropanol) → grit-blast (Sa2.5, Ra 1.5–4.0 μm) → optional phosphate pretreatment for steel
Coating Preparation Low-speed mechanical stirring; dilute with manufacturer-recommended solvent
Application Spray (conventional or HVLP), dip-spin (for fasteners), or dip coating
Curing 375–420°C (707–788°F) for 5–15 minutes (substrate temperature)
Storage Store in original, sealed containers in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Shelf life: 18 months

Critical Processing Warnings:

Surface Preparation: Proper surface preparation is critical for adhesion. Grit-blast to Sa2.5 grade with Ra 1.5–4.0 μm .

Curing: Xylan 8840 requires high-temperature curing at 375–420°C. Cure time depends on part mass and oven characteristics. Always verify with test pieces.

FEP Processing: FEP requires correct processing to achieve optimal nonstick properties. Follow manufacturer specifications carefully .

Storage: Store in original, sealed containers in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
