Typical Extrusion Conditions
PRIMACOR 3460 can be processed under typical extrusion coating and extrusion lamination conditions. Reference processing conditions include a screw size of 3.5 inches, 30:1 L/D, die gap of 20 mil, die width of 30 inches deckled to 24 inches, melt temperature around 425°F or 218°C, output of 250 lb/hr and air gap of 6 inches.
The recommended melt temperature range is 428–500°F, equivalent to 220–260°C. Compared with many standard extrusion coating EAA grades, PRIMACOR 3460 is designed for lower processing temperature and high line speed applications. The minimum coating thickness is 0.40 mil, or 10 μm, and the minimum coating weight is 6.0 lb/ream, or 9.8 g/m².
Final processing conditions should be adjusted according to equipment design, substrate type, coating weight, line speed and final packaging structure. For better processing stability, equipment used for this resin should be constructed with corrosion-resistant materials. Dies and adapters are recommended to be stainless steel, duplex chrome plated or nickel plated.
Compliance and Additives
PRIMACOR 3460 complies with US FDA 21 CFR 177.1310(a)(1) and EU No 10/2011. Final suitability for food contact or packaging applications should be confirmed according to the customer’s final product structure, processing conditions and local regulatory requirements.
Additives information:
– Antiblock: No
– Slip: No
