描述

Xylan 1331 is a solvent-based, PPS/PTFE composite dry film lubricant coating from Whitford Corporation (now PPG). As an authorized distributor and trader, we supply genuine materials with full traceability and direct access to official technical documentation.

Unlike Xylan 1311 (which contains only a small percentage of PTFE, prioritizing abrasion resistance), Xylan 1331 is formulated with a high percentage of PTFE, delivering a highly lubricious, nonstick surface while maintaining excellent abrasion, corrosion, and chemical resistance . It is the “lubricity-first” member of the Xylan 1300 Series.

The coating derives its properties from a synergistic combination of PPS (polyphenylene sulfide) and PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) . PPS provides excellent chemical resistance at elevated temperatures, bonding strength, and abrasion resistance, while the high PTFE content adds superior nonwetting/lubricating properties with low friction . Together, the two polymers produce a coating virtually unaffected by solvents to 205°C (400°F) and resistant to most acids and bases .

Xylan 1331 is recommended when a highly lubricious, nonstick surface is desired . Typical applications include downhole tools (resisting paraffin fouling and chloride chemical attack) , valves, fasteners, and general industrial components requiring high lubricity combined with durability .

Key Features of Xylan 1331 Coating

  • High PTFE Content – Provides superior lubricity and nonstick properties, delivering a low-friction, easy-release surface

  • PPS/PTFE Composite System – Combines the abrasion resistance, bonding strength, and chemical resistance of PPS with the nonwetting and lubricating properties of PTFE

  • Excellent Chemical Resistance – Virtually unaffected by solvents to 205°C (400°F); resists most acids and bases; suitable for harsh chemical environments

  • Wide Temperature Range – Operates from -20°C to 230°C (-4°F to 446°F)

  • Superior Lubricity – Coefficient of friction: static 0.128, dynamic 0.09

  • Abrasion Resistance – Taber abrasion weight loss of 32.3 mg after 1000 cycles (ISO 9352)

  • Good Corrosion Protection – Excellent corrosion and chemical resistance; hydrophobic and nonstick surface

  • Resin-Bonded Durability – Thermoset fluoropolymer matrix provides durable, long-lasting protection

  • Multiple Color Options – Available in blue, black, green, yellow, and custom colors for identification and traceability

  • Solvent-Based Formulation – Provides excellent wetting, leveling, and adhesion to properly prepared metal substrates

  • Versatile Application Methods – Can be applied by spray or dip coating; compatible with various substrate materials

Processing Guidelines for Xylan 1331 Coating

Step Process
Surface Preparation Alkaline cleaning or acetone degreasing + grit-blast (Sa2.5 grade, Ra 3–6 μm)
Coating Application Apply Xylan 1331 by spray (conventional or HVLP) or dip coating
Dry Film Thickness 10 – 20 μm recommended
Curing Cure at 193°C (380°F) for 15–20 minutes (substrate temperature)
Storage Store in original, sealed containers in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Shelf life: 18 months

Critical Processing Warnings:

Surface Preparation: Proper surface preparation is critical for adhesion. Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and properly roughened to Sa2.5 grade, Ra 3–6 μm .

Primer Application: Xylan 1331 may be applied as a single coat but can be paired with a primer (e.g., Xylan® 2) to significantly enhance adhesion and corrosion resistance. With primer, salt spray resistance can reach 1500–4000 hours .

Curing: Cure at 193°C (380°F) for 15–20 minutes. Cure time depends on part mass and oven characteristics. Always verify with test pieces .

Storage: Store in original, sealed containers in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

FAQ about Xylan 1331 Coating

Q1: What is Xylan 1331?
A: Xylan 1331 is a solvent-based, PPS/PTFE composite dry film coating from Whitford (PPG). It contains a high percentage of PTFE, delivering a highly lubricious, nonstick surface while maintaining excellent abrasion, corrosion, and chemical resistance .

Q2: How does Xylan 1331 differ from Xylan 1311?
A: Xylan 1311 contains a small percentage of PTFE and prioritizes abrasion resistance over lubricity. Xylan 1331 has a high PTFE content, making it the preferred choice when a highly lubricious, nonstick surface is desired .

Q3: What is the PPS/PTFE composite system?
A: The coating combines PPS (polyphenylene sulfide), which provides excellent chemical resistance at elevated temperatures, bonding strength, and abrasion resistance, with PTFE, which adds nonwetting and low-friction properties . Together, they produce a coating virtually unaffected by solvents to 205°C (400°F) and resistant to most acids and bases .

Q4: What is the operating temperature range of Xylan 1331?
