Typical Extrusion Conditions
PRIMACOR 3440 can be processed under typical extrusion coating and extrusion lamination conditions. Reference processing conditions include a screw size of 3.5 inches, 30:1 L/D, die gap of 20 mil, die width of 30 inches deckled to 24 inches, melt temperature around 550°F or 288°C, output of 250 lb/hr and air gap of 6 inches.
The recommended melt temperature range is 500–554°F, equivalent to 260–290°C. The minimum coating thickness is 0.40 mil, or 10 μm, and the minimum coating weight is 6.0 lb/ream, or 9.8 g/m². Final processing conditions should be adjusted according to equipment design, substrate type, coating weight, line speed and final packaging structure.
For better processing stability, equipment used for this resin should be constructed with corrosion-resistant materials. Dies and adapters are recommended to be stainless steel, duplex chrome plated or nickel plated.
