描述
VESTAMID L2140 NC is a natural-color, high-viscosity, heat- and light-stabilized polyamide 12 compound manufactured by Evonik Operations GmbH. The grade is designed for extrusion of tubing such as fuel lines and for semi-finished products requiring toughness, dimensional stability and chemical resistance.
The high-viscosity profile is one of the defining characteristics of VESTAMID L2140 NC. In extrusion, higher melt strength helps the hot polymer maintain its geometry between the die and the calibration or cooling system. This makes the grade especially suitable for tube and profile applications where dimensional control is important.
Evonik specifies tubing made from VESTAMID L2140 NC according to DIN 73 378, Type PA 12-HL. This classification supports its use in demanding technical tubing systems, particularly where pressure resistance, dimensional stability and PA12 durability are required.
The PA12 matrix also provides relatively low moisture uptake. Published data lists water absorption of approximately 1.6% and humidity absorption of approximately 0.8%. Because of this low moisture sensitivity, dimensions and mechanical properties change less with humidity than many other polyamide materials.
Mechanical toughness is another important strength. Unnotched Charpy specimens are reported as no break at both 23°C and -30°C. The typical notched impact strength is approximately 35 kJ/m² dry at 23°C and 9 kJ/m² dry at -30°C, demonstrating useful toughness over a broad temperature range.
The grade also provides a low coefficient of friction and broad chemical resistance. Current material data includes resistance information for acids, bases, alcohols, hydrocarbons, motor oils, insulating oils, standard fuels, diesel and brake fluid.
VESTAMID L2140 NC is supplied in natural color and contains a lubricant additive. It is listed for injection molding, pipe/tube extrusion, profile extrusion and other extrusion processes, while its principal commercial positioning is high-viscosity PA12 extrusion.

Why Choose VESTAMID L2140 NC?
The main reason to choose VESTAMID L2140 NC is its high-viscosity extrusion behavior combined with the durability of PA12.
Tube extrusion requires the polymer melt to retain geometry before it is fully cooled. A grade with insufficient melt strength may sag or produce unstable dimensions. The low MVR of L2140 reflects the high melt viscosity needed for more stable tube and profile extrusion.
The PA12 base also offers low moisture absorption. This reduces dimensional and mechanical variation in humid environments compared with more moisture-sensitive polyamides.
Impact strength is another major advantage. The grade remains highly resistant to impact in unnotched Charpy testing at both room temperature and -30°C, which is valuable for automotive and industrial tubing.
The material also provides broad chemical resistance to fuels, diesel, motor oil, alcohols, hydrocarbons and multiple aqueous chemical solutions.
Finally, the natural-color form gives processors more flexibility where a black pre-colored resin is not required.
Processing Guidelines for VESTAMID L2140 NC
VESTAMID L2140 NC is suitable for pipe/tube extrusion, profile extrusion, other extrusion methods and injection molding.
The current product datasheet gives the following ISO test-specimen molding conditions:
| Processing Item | Published Condition |
|---|---|
| Primary Processing | Pipe / Tube Extrusion, Profile Extrusion, Other Extrusion |
| Additional Processing | Injection Molding |
| ISO Test Melt Temperature | 240°C |
| ISO Test Mold Temperature | 60°C |
| ISO Test Injection Velocity | 200 mm/s |
| ISO Test Holding Pressure | 70 MPa |
| Supply Condition | Dry pellets in moisture-proof packaging |
The ISO test conditions above should not automatically be copied as the final production extrusion profile. Tube extrusion temperatures should be optimized according to extruder size, output, die design, tube diameter, wall thickness and cooling system.
VESTAMID compounds are supplied in moisture-proof packaging. Material from intact original bags is generally ready for processing. If the pellets have been exposed to ambient air and absorbed moisture, drying should follow Evonik’s general VESTAMID processing guidance.
For precision tubing, die centering, vacuum calibration, haul-off speed and cooling conditions should be controlled together to maintain wall thickness and outside diameter.
The published shelf life is at least two years when material is stored in original, undamaged packaging in dry rooms at temperatures not exceeding 30°C.
