描述

VESTAMID L2124 NC is a natural-color, high-viscosity, plasticized polyamide 12 compound manufactured by Evonik Operations GmbH. It is designed primarily for extrusion of flexible tubing and hoses, especially for oil, fuel and petrochemical applications.

The grade is a PA12-P material with a high melt viscosity. This is important in tube extrusion because the polymer must retain sufficient melt strength after leaving the die and before final calibration and cooling. Evonik specifically describes VESTAMID L2124 NC as providing good dimensional control during pipe extrusion.

The plasticized formulation gives the finished tube greater flexibility than rigid unplasticized PA12. This makes the material suitable for applications such as fuel lines, vacuum lines, hydraulic lines and other flexible technical tubing where both toughness and bendability are required.

VESTAMID L2124 NC is also specified for tubing according to DIN 73 378, Type PA 12-PHL. This product positioning makes it especially relevant for technical and automotive tube systems requiring a recognized PA12 tubing material.

Another important advantage is low moisture uptake. Published water absorption is approximately 1.3%, while humidity absorption is approximately 0.5%. Because PA12 absorbs relatively little moisture, its dimensions and mechanical properties change less with humidity than many other polyamides.

The material also offers exceptional impact strength, a low coefficient of friction and good chemical resistance. Current product data includes resistance information for acids, alkalis, alcohols, hydrocarbons, oils, fuels and other industrial media.

Unlike the black L2124 BK 9.7507 version, VESTAMID L2124 NC is supplied in natural color. This can be useful when a neutral base material is preferred or when the processor requires a different downstream color strategy.

Why Choose VESTAMID L2124 NC?

The main reason to choose VESTAMID L2124 NC is its balance of melt strength, flexibility and resistance to oils and chemicals.

Tube extrusion requires sufficient melt viscosity to maintain the geometry of the hot extrudate before calibration. Evonik specifically highlights the high melt viscosity and good dimensional control of L2124 during pipe extrusion.

The plasticized formulation provides a flexible tube rather than a rigid PA12 component. This is important for fuel, hydraulic, vacuum and industrial hose systems that need to bend during installation and tolerate continuous movement or vibration.

PA12’s low moisture absorption provides another advantage. The material changes relatively little with ambient humidity, helping maintain tube dimensions and consistent mechanical behavior.

Chemical resistance is particularly relevant to this grade. Published data covers multiple automotive and industrial fluids, including standard fuels, diesel fuel, motor oil, hydrocarbons, alcohols, acids and alkaline solutions.

For processors who need the L2124 performance package but do not want a black pre-colored resin, VESTAMID L2124 NC provides the natural-color version of this high-viscosity tubing family.

Processing Guidelines for VESTAMID L2124 NC

VESTAMID L2124 NC is intended primarily for pipe/tube extrusion, profile extrusion and other extrusion processes. Current product information also lists injection molding.

Processing Item Published / Recommended Guidance
Primary Processing Pipe / Tube Extrusion, Profile Extrusion
Additional Processing Injection Molding, Other Extrusion
ISO Test Melt Temperature 220°C
ISO Test Mold Temperature 60°C
ISO Test Injection Velocity 200 mm/s
ISO Test Holding Pressure 70 MPa
Supply Condition Pellets / Granules in moisture-protective packaging
Storage Dry storage at ≤30°C in original undamaged packaging

The ISO conditions above are used to prepare standardized injection-molded test specimens. They should not be treated as a universal extrusion temperature profile.

For actual tube production, the extruder barrel profile, die temperature, line speed, vacuum calibration and cooling conditions should be optimized according to tube diameter, wall thickness and output rate.

Evonik recommends following its general VESTAMID processing guidance. Material from intact moisture-proof packaging can normally be processed directly. If the pellets have absorbed moisture after extended exposure to ambient air, drying should be carried out before production.

Inside original and undamaged packaging, the published shelf life of VESTAMID L2124 NC is at least two years when stored in dry rooms at temperatures not exceeding 30°C.
