MacDermid Alpha Micromax 5082R Silver Covering Conductor for LTCC Brazing
Type: Silver Covering Conductor
Application: LTCC Ag/Pt Conductor
Series: 5081R + 5082R
Shelf Life: 6 months
Micromax 5082R is the top silver covering conductor in a two-component thick film system with Micromax 5081R. It enables high temperature solders and low temperature braze alloys on 96% alumina and Micromax GreenTape 951 LTCC. Phthalate and cadmium free, with high strength attachment and hermetic packaging capability.
Micromax 5082R from MacDermid Alpha is the silver covering conductor in a two-component, all thick film system paired with Micromax 5081R. The system enables high temperature solders and low temperature braze alloys on 96% alumina and the Micromax GreenTape 951 low temperature cofired ceramic system. It is also compatible with thick film resistors and conventional IC and lid attach processes. The formulation is phthalate and cadmium free.
The paste has a viscosity range of 225–325 Pa.s and uses Micromax 9180R as the recommended thinner. Print 5082R over the fired 5081R using a 325-mesh stainless steel screen with 13μm emulsion, at room temperature 20–23°C. Ensure 5082R completely covers the 5081R print. Allow prints to level over 10 minutes, then dry 10–15 minutes at 150°C. Fire at 850°C peak held for 10 minutes on a 30-minute cycle in air atmosphere. Total 5082R fired thickness should exceed 20 μm; the exact thickness depends on the braze alloy and brazing temperature. PGA reliability is ≥15 lbs under both thermal cycle (−40°C to 125°C, 200 cycles) and thermal aging (200 hrs in air at 150°C). Seal ring reliability is below 10⁻⁸ Atm cm³/s by helium leak test. Brazing is performed in nitrogen atmosphere with Au/Sn alloys, preforms, or pastes. Store sealed at 5–30°C; unopened shelf life is 6 months.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is 5082R used together with 5081R?
The TDS describes 5081R and 5082R as a two-component, all thick film paste system. 5081R is printed first onto the fired substrate; 5082R is printed afterward as the covering conductor. Together they enable high temperature solders and low temperature braze alloys.
How much 5082R thickness is required after firing?
Total 5082R fired thickness should exceed 20μm. The exact thickness depends on the type of braze alloy and the brazing temperature used.
Which substrates suit the 5081R / 5082R system?
Two substrate families are named in the TDS: 96% alumina and Micromax GreenTape 951 LTCC. Multilayer hybrid circuits are also covered under the application scope.
How strong is the brazed joint after thermal cycling?
PGA reliability is ≥15 lbs after 200 cycles from −40°C to 125°C rapid transfer. PGA reliability after thermal aging is also ≥15 lbs after 200 hours in air at 150°C.
How does 5082R perform in hermetic seal testing?
Seal ring reliability is below 10⁻⁸ Atm cm³/s by helium leak test on a Kovar seal ring bonded to Micromax 951 GreenTape, across 100 thermal cycles from −25°C to +85°C.
Is 5082R free of phthalate and cadmium?
Per the TDS, phthalate and cadmium oxide are not intentional ingredients and are not intentionally added. Trace amounts may be present. Customers with strict compliance thresholds should verify against their own requirements.
What thinner should be used with 5082R?
Micromax 9180R is the listed solvent or thinner. Thinning is not normally required since the composition is optimized for screen printing. Use it only for small viscosity adjustments or to replace evaporation loss.
