⚡ High-Temperature Silver Carbon Conductor with 105°C Stability
Micromax 5524 is a stable, one-part silver/carbon conductor designed for high temperature applications where excursions to 105°C are required. It runs on flatbed and reel-to-reel manufacturing lines. When combined with Micromax 5018 crossover dielectric and optionally Micromax 5036 heat seal, it forms a complete materials set for appliance circuitry.

Micromax 5524 from MacDermid Alpha is a stable, one-part silver/carbon conductor specifically designed for high temperature applications where excursions to 105°C are required. It has been used on flatbed and reel-to-reel manufacturing lines, which supports both prototype and volume membrane switch production. The paste is compatible with Micromax 5018 crossover dielectric, giving a complete materials set for appliance circuitry. Micromax 5036 heat seal composition may also be used where a heat-seal layer is required.

The paste carries 53–56% solids and a viscosity range of 200–425 Pa.s. Micromax 3610 is the listed solvent or thinner. Print with a 325 mesh stainless steel screen to a typical circuit line thickness of 8–9 μm. Theoretical coverage is 140–300 cm²/g, depending on print thickness. Box-oven drying is 120°C for 5–6 minutes; reel-to-reel drying is 140°C for 1 minute. Resistivity is 15–35 mΩ/sq at 25μm, and pencil hardness reaches 3H on 5-mil polyester film. Adhesion shows no material transfer in crosshatch testing. Work life is over 1 hour, and clean-up uses ethylene glycol diacetate. Store sealed at 5–30°C; unopened shelf life is 6 months.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is 5524 suitable for high temperature membrane switches?

The TDS states that 5524 is designed for high temperature applications where excursions to 105°C are required. Maximum service temperature is 105°C, measured on 5-mil polyester film. Excellent high temperature stability is the listed product benefit.

What other Micromax materials work with 5524?

The TDS states that 5524 works with Micromax 5018 crossover dielectric and may optionally use Micromax 5036 heat seal composition. Together they form a complete materials set for appliance circuitry.

Can 5524 run on reel-to-reel lines?

Yes. The TDS states that 5524 has been used on flatbed and reel-to-reel manufacturing lines, and lists reel-to-reel, semi-automatic, and manual as printing methods. Reel-to-reel drying is 140°C for 1 minute.

What is the resistivity and line thickness of 5524?

Resistivity is 15–35 mΩ/sq at 25μm. Typical circuit line thickness is 8–9 μm when printed with a 325 mesh stainless steel screen, with recommended film thickness 8–9 μm.

How hard is the cured 5524 film?

Pencil hardness is 3H by ASTM D3363-74, measured on 5-mil polyester film. This is higher than many silver conductors, which supports abrasion resistance in membrane switch applications.

What thinner and clean-up solvent should be used with 5524?

Micromax 3610 is the listed solvent or thinner. Clean-up uses ethylene glycol diacetate. Using the recommended thinner helps keep viscosity and print behavior consistent with the TDS values.

How should 5524 be stored?

Store tightly sealed at 5–30°C in a clean, stable environment. Unopened shelf life is 6 months from shipment. Some settling may occur, so mix thoroughly before reuse.
