描述

VESTAMID LX9013 BK 9.7507 is a black, high-viscosity, plasticized and impact-modified polyamide 12 compound from Evonik Operations GmbH developed for flexible tubing that must remain exposed to elevated temperatures for long periods.

Its principal application is hot diesel fuel tubing, especially return lines and fuel lines located close to the engine in common-rail diesel vehicles. Evonik developed LX9013 together with LX9008 specifically for these demanding environments.

The current Evonik fuel-line guide states that LX9008 and LX9013 provide superior resistance to thermal aging compared with conventional polyamides in common-rail diesel tubing service, with application guidance referring to approximately 125°C continuous temperature and 140°C peak temperature.

The main difference between the two grades is flexibility. VESTAMID LX9013 BK 9.7507 is plasticized, so it is significantly softer and more flexible than the plasticizer-free LX9008. Current dry tensile modulus is only about 410 MPa, making LX9013 well suited for routed tubing, tight installation spaces and line systems where flexibility is important.

The material also provides very strong impact behavior. Unnotched Charpy specimens show no break at both 23°C and -30°C, while dry notched impact strength at 23°C is approximately 130 kJ/m². Conditioned material reaches approximately 140 kJ/m².

Low moisture absorption is another PA12 advantage. Published water absorption is approximately 1.5%, while humidity absorption is approximately 0.6%. This helps dimensions and mechanical properties remain comparatively stable when ambient humidity changes.

The current product information identifies VESTAMID LX9013 BK 9.7507 as corresponding to PA12-HIPHL, Grade 1 according to DIN 73378. It also states that the grade meets the requirements of DIN 74324 for black tubing, ISO 7628 and SAE J844.

The grade is supplied as black pellets in moisture-proof packaging and is intended for pipe/tube extrusion, profile extrusion and other extrusion processes.

The plasticized formulation gives VESTAMID LX9013 BK 9.7507 lower electrical resistivity than many unplasticized PA12 grades, but the material remains an electrically insulating polymer.

Why Choose VESTAMID LX9013 BK 9.7507?

The main reason to choose VESTAMID LX9013 BK 9.7507 is its combination of flexibility and exceptional long-term heat resistance.

Common-rail diesel systems subject fuel-return tubing to much higher thermal loads than older diesel systems. A standard flexible PA12 grade may provide good impact strength but may lose mechanical performance after prolonged exposure to hot diesel fuel.

Evonik developed LX9013 specifically to address this problem. The current diesel-line guide identifies LX9013 and LX9008 as specialty PA12 materials for fuel lines near the engine, including service at approximately 125°C continuously and 140°C peak.

LX9013 adds substantial flexibility through plasticization. Its dry tensile modulus of approximately 410 MPa is far lower than the roughly 1,450 MPa modulus of LX9008, allowing tighter routing and softer tube behavior.

The grade also performs well at low temperature. This is critical because the same fuel line may experience severe engine-bay heat during operation and sub-zero ambient temperatures when the vehicle is parked or started in winter.

Low water absorption further helps stabilize tube dimensions. This can support consistent fitting engagement, sealing and burst-pressure behavior across changing environmental humidity.

For projects where hot diesel resistance, flexibility and low-temperature toughness must all be balanced, VESTAMID LX9013 BK 9.7507 is one of Evonik’s most application-specific PA12 tubing grades.

Processing Guidelines for VESTAMID LX9013 BK 9.7507

VESTAMID LX9013 BK 9.7507 is designed primarily for pipe/tube extrusion, with profile extrusion and other extrusion processes also listed.

Current grade-specific data gives the following standardized specimen-production conditions:

Processing Item Published Condition
Primary Processing Pipe / Tube Extrusion
Other Processing Profile Extrusion, Other Extrusion
ISO Test Melt Temperature 220°C
ISO Test Mold Temperature 60°C
ISO Test Injection Velocity 200 mm/s
ISO Test Holding Pressure 70 MPa
Packaging Moisture-proof packaging
Shelf Life At least 2 years in original undamaged packaging at ≤30°C

These injection-molding conditions are used for standardized property testing and should not be treated as a fixed fuel-line extrusion recipe.

Evonik’s general VESTAMID processing guidance states that drying is required only when the original moisture-proof packaging has been damaged or the material has been exposed to ambient air for an extended period.

For plasticized PA12, the general drying recommendation is:

Drying Item Recommended Condition
Drying Temperature 80°C
Dehumidified-Air Dryer 2–4 hours
Target Moisture after Drying <0.1%

Actual extrusion temperatures, screw speed, line speed, vacuum calibration and cooling conditions should be optimized for tube diameter, wall thickness, line design and required automotive specification.

Because VESTAMID LX9013 BK 9.7507 is used in fuel and safety-relevant tubing, final production should be qualified against the required DIN, ISO, SAE or OEM test program rather than relying only on resin-level data.
