Santoprene 201-55 is a soft, natural-color, colorable thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV) from Celanese designed for broad general-purpose extrusion and molding applications.

It belongs to the Santoprene 200-series family, which provides colorable alternatives to the black 100-series general-purpose grades while retaining the characteristic rubber-like performance of Santoprene TPV.

Celanese describes Santoprene 201-55 as a soft, colorable and versatile TPV in the thermoplastic elastomer family. The material combines good physical properties and chemical resistance for use across a wide range of technical applications.

The grade is polyolefin based and exhibits the shear-dependent flow behavior typical of Santoprene TPV. Its apparent melt viscosity decreases as shear rate increases, allowing the material to process efficiently on conventional thermoplastic injection-molding and extrusion equipment when the process is correctly optimized.

The current Shore A hardness is approximately 59, placing Santoprene 201-55 in the soft elastomer range.

Shear-Dependent Flow Behavior

Santoprene 201-55 has relatively high melt viscosity at low shear rates. As shear rate increases, apparent viscosity decreases.

The color system should be compatible with TPV processing conditions and should not interfere with mechanical properties, hardness, UV performance, chemical resistance, OEM requirements, UL requirements or surface appearance.
