Cadmium, lead, nickel, and phthalate free.
Micromax 5450T from MacDermid Alpha is a polymeric platable silver C2 edge termination developed for chip resistors, resistor arrays, and network applications. It is designed to meet the needs of lower cost and high yield while maintaining high performance over fired-type C2 edge termination. The paste is applied by dipping, with rheology specifically optimized for the dipping process. It cures at low temperature (200°C for 30 minutes) and provides high plated adhesion, good dipping performance, stable viscosity and rheology, good platiability, and good conductivity. The formulation is cadmium, lead, nickel, and phthalate free.
The paste carries 70–73% solids and a viscosity range of 15–20 Pa.s. Micromax 9245 is the recommended thinner, though thinning is not normally required since the composition is optimized for dipping. Reported properties are based on 96% alumina substrates. After dipping, allow parts to level at room temperature for 5–10 minutes, then dry at 150°C for 10 minutes. Cure with 30 minutes at a peak of 200°C. Store sealed at 0–5°C; room temperature storage is not recommended. Unopened shelf life is 3 months from date of shipment.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does 5450T differ from 5450H?
5450T is applied by dipping, with viscosity 15–20 Pa.s. 5450H is applied by screen printing, with viscosity 35–40 Pa.s. Both are platable silver C2 edge terminations for chip resistors, cure at 200°C for 30 minutes, and are stored refrigerated.
Why is stable viscosity important for 5450T?
The TDS lists stable viscosity and rheology as a product benefit. For dipping, stable rheology helps maintain consistent pickup and coverage across a batch, which matters for resistor arrays and networks.
What curing schedule does 5450T require?
Cure with 30 minutes at a peak of 200°C. A drying step at 150°C for 10 minutes after leveling is recommended prior to curing.
Does 5450T need a specific thinner?
Micromax 9245 is the recommended thinner. The composition is optimized for dipping, and thinning is not normally required. Use the recommended thinner only for slight viscosity adjustments or to replace evaporation losses.
What are the plating characteristics of 5450T?
The TDS lists high plated adhesion and good platiability as product benefits. This supports reliable performance when the termination is subsequently plated.
Is 5450T free of cadmium, lead, nickel and phthalate?
Per the TDS, cadmium, lead, nickel, and phthalate are not intentional ingredients and are not intentionally added. Trace amounts may be present. Customers with strict compliance thresholds should verify against their own requirements.
How should 5450T be stored?
Store refrigerated at 0–5°C. Room temperature storage is not recommended. Unopened shelf life is 3 months. Allow the material to equilibrate to room temperature before opening to prevent moisture pickup from condensation.
